The 6th annual Francisco's Farm Arts Festival at Midway College is
This Weekend!
Dear Readers,
For several months I've been sending out profiles on some of the artists who will arrive in Midway on Friday to set-up their tents and artwork. They are looking forward to meeting you on Saturday and Sunday. (You'll always have access to these little stories and images at our E-News Archives page.)
I just wanted to take a moment this morning to tell you about some aspects of this event that always keep me excited and inspired.
When you arrive in Midway you'll be greeted by our beautiful banners that line the streets and guide you to the College. Last week one of our artists told me that he had arrived in Midway last year to exhibit for the first time and when he saw the banners it made him feel so happy. He had high expectations for the weekend, and when he arrived on campus and was treated so hospitably by our wonderful volunteers, he experienced 'the spirit of the Festival' - an atmosphere of quiet joy that surrounded the event and the people, and was evident all weekend. He said the Festival completely exceeded his expectations.
This event reflects the passions of the members and friends of Midway Renaissance - an organization dedicated to the arts, the environment, and the development of a strong community. Our friend, Dan Roller, says, "Midway is a state of mind," and I couldn't agree more.
Our concern for treating the environment with care has led us to 'kick the plastic bag habit', and this year to 'kick the bottled water habit'. We're a litter-free event, and offer recycling containers everywhere on campus. Next year we hope to become a zero-waste event, with the assistance of Bluegrass PRIDE.
In addition to offering indoor dining in the Cafeteria, this year we've added a few select outdoor vendors - Jake's Crabcakes, Repicci's Italian Water Ice, and Slow Food Bluegrass - a non-profit organization dedicated to fresh, local, organic foods.
This is the third year we've been among the Top Ten Art Fairs in the country, and on Saturday morning the first thousand visitors will receive a free copy of AmericanStyle Magazine. The issue happens to have a ballot inside so you can vote for up to three of your favorite festivals. We hope to be among them, and if we're not please let us know what we can do to get there.
(You can also vote online until mid-September. The magazine holds a drawing to award a $500 travel certificate as an incentive for voting.)
I could write more but what I want to convey is best experienced in person. We hope you come and meet the talented artists, enjoy great music and food, and find out first hand why I love this festival.
Thanks for your support! See you THIS weekend!
